Elsie Evensky passed away peacefully on June 14, 2014 at age 95.

She was born in Mobile, one of eleven children. She lived in Birmingham since her marriage to Nathan Evensky in 1941. Elsie and Nathan owned and operated GEM Jewelry Company for many years in downtown Birmingham. She was very involved and active with Birmingham Hadassah. Also was a member of Temple Beth-El where she was a frequent volunteer.

Fondly known as "Aunt Elsie" not only to her many nieces and nephews, but also to the many members of the community who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Nathan and daughter Emily Evensky Freeth. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Elsie will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and keen wit as well as for her wonderful voice and very Southern accent. She was also known, highly regarded and loved for her kindness and generosity to so many people over her long lifetime.

She will be greatly missed.

Graveside service and interment was Monday June 16 at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Temple Beth-El (PO Box 550220, Birmingham, AL 35255) or Hadassah (3340 Stoneridge Lane, Birmingham, AL 35243) or to charity of your choice.
