He was a great tennis player! He was a state tennis champion in older age. He was also the champion of his country club in both golf and tennis. That’s the Coosa county country club in Rome, Georgia. His boys, Mark, Greg, and Frank were all excellent swimmers, golfers, and tennis players. He was very stern about making sure they were. Also uncle Herb in his later years bought a Porsche 911. He also taught tennis at the country club.

He started playing tennis at 50 years old, after already playing competitive golf at a high level. Eventually he became the number 1 player in Georgia, number 2 in the southeast, and 25th in the nation for the 70s singles bracket, in 1997.
