Bertha Friedman was born on March 4, 1877, the daughter of Grandfather. She married Max Schulman in 1896. They had five children in 13 years. She died on May 13, 1960, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the age of 83, and was buried there.

She came to the U.S. as a young girl. After marriage, she brought all her brothers and sisters to this country. She owned and operated a millenary store in Livingston. The store was located on the town square where a barbership now (1990) stands.
