When Louis Eliel Blumberg was born on January 14, 1894, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, his father, Helman, was 40 and his mother, Ida, was 34. He married Leah Schulman on June 15, 1922, in Sumter, Alabama. They had two children during their marriage. He died on February 17, 1964, in Dalton, Georgia, at the age of 70.

Louis grew up in Chattanooga in a large family. He served in WW I around 1917-1918 and, after marriage, worked for the National Linen Co. At the beginning of WW II, he and Leah opened a successful jewelry store in Dalton. He was always interested and talented with mechanical devices and gadgets.

He was a member of the Freemasons and Elks lodge.
