When Louis Eliel Blumberg was born on January 14, 1894, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, his father, Helman, was 40 and his mother, Ida, was 34. Louis grew up in Chattanooga in a large family. He served in WW I around 1917-1918 and, after marriage, worked for the National Linen Co. At the beginning of WW II, he and Leah opened a successful jewelry store in Dalton. He was always interested and talented with mechanical devices and gadgets.

He was a member of the Freemasons and Elks lodge.
